TEAM Marianas gave it their all during the two-and-a-half-week-long Pacific Games 2023 at the Solomon Islands, and brought home five gold, one silver and seven bronze medals.
On Tuesday, during an “appreciation night” held in their honor at the Hibiscus Hall of the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, each medalist received an incentive for their athletic achievements.
The gold medalists were Tania Tan who won two in athletics, swimmer Isaiah Aleksenko, bodybuilding’s Christina Tudela, and weightlifting’s Raymond Santos. $2,000 was awarded for each gold medal.
Raymond Santos, who also won a silver medal, received an additional $1,000.
The bronze medalists are beach volleyball’s Logan Mister and Andrew Johnson, Aleksenko as a solo swimmer who received two more bronze medals with teammates Taiyo Akimaru, Kian Pajarillaga, Jhun Tenorio as part of the 4x200m freestyle relay team, and Kouki Watanabe, Kian Pajarillaga, and Jhun Tenorio in the 4×100 medley relay event, as well as bodybuilding’s Davy Laxa and weightlifting Leowell Cristobal. Each bronze medal was awarded $500.
The swimming and beach volleyball teams decided to split their incentives: $125 for the four swimmers and $250 for Mister and Johnson.
All of the NMI’s Pacific Games delegates received gift bags and gift certificates from IT&E and McDonald’s.
Also attending the appreciation night on Tuesday were Northern Marianas Sports Association Vice President Ray Tebuteb, Secretary General Val Hofschneider, Treasurer John Hirsh, Board Member John Davis and Team Marianas Chef De Mission Nick Gross as well as the representatives of the sponsors: Mike Sablan of Triple J, Ray Alvarez of Joeten Daidai Foundation, Clayton Darlington of Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, Laarni Zapanta of IT&E, and Jewel Cubangbang of McDonald’s.
Team Marianas’ participation in the 2023 Pacific Games was supported by Joeten Daidai Foundation, Triple J Saipan, IT&E, IP&E, Tan Holdings, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, Mobil, and McDonald’s.
