Ol’ Aces win youth league finals vs. Titanium

Frankie Camacho ended the game on a run-scoring single, sending Jake Santos home in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The loss was an upset to Titanium, who faced a doubleheader versus both the Aces and Fielders 2 on Saturday. Two runs from Ton Guerrero and Brian Camacho gave the first runner-ups control of the first three innings.

The Ol’ Aces evened the field in the bottom of the fourth after back-to-back runs from short stop Harry Nakamura and third baseman Keoni Lizama.

Team Titanium nearly reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth but was shut down after Joseph Atalig’s strikeout.

Ol’ Aces’ pitcher AJ Lizama tallied six strikeouts, Jake Flores bagged two RBI, and Camacho scored one RBI.

Team Titanium had earlier survived the top-seeded Fielders 2 on a 10-7 win.

The Aces, managed by Tony Flores and coached by Walter Macaranas, had only one loss to earn the second seed in the playoffs. Also in the lineup were Diego Camacho, AJ Lizama, Rocco Reyes, Dave Hosono, Lancaster Secharmidal, and Ton Sablan.

Joining Titanium were Jerald C., Jon Cabrera, Joe Palacios, Manny Flores, Alex and Palmerson Mongkeya, Steven C., and Joseph Atalig.

Despite the end of the season, baseball practice may not be over yet for a select number of athletes.

Qualified players may be eligible to join the CNMI’s representing team in the 2012 AAA 18-and-under Oceania Championship in Guam. The tournament, a qualifier for the 2012 18U Baseball World Championship in Korea, will be held between January 27 and February 4.
