Audie Maratita poses with his awards and the championship and pennant trophies during the awards ceremony of the 2023 SBL Masters League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Wednesday.
AUDIE Maratita of the Pirates, the 2023 SBL Masters League champions, received several individuals awards during the ceremony following game 3 at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Wednesday.
The Pirates completed the regular season unscathed, thanks mainly to Maratita’s contributions from the batter’s box. He was named the Doubles Leader with eight doubles, most of which led to RBIs. Not surprisingly, he was also named the RBI Leader with 20 RBIs.
As the Finals MVP, he earned three RBIs that helped the Pirates to beat the Dodgers, 16-11, in game 3 of their best-of-3 championship series.
In addition, Maratita was among the league’s Homerun Leaders, a distinction he shared with Bruce Norita, Eric Tudela, J-Boy Deleon Guerrero and Robert Bansil. They all have one homerun each.
“Man, I just want to give thanks to the Lord and my teammates — I love them!” Maratita said.
Asked what he felt when they won the championship, he said: “It was all teamwork, everyone chipped in.”
He said he is one big fan of the game who was fortunate enough to be called to play for the Pirates.
He said he and his teammates are eager to defend their title.
Maratita dedicated his awards and championship “to the Lord, my family and wife, and my mom and dad who are in heaven.”
The other individual awardees were:
• Batting Leader — Glen Camacho with 15 hits of 23 at bat with an average of .652;
• Leader in Runs Scored — Derek Aguon with 23;
• Triples Leader — Cartfield Sablan with 3;
• Pitching Leader — Pete Sablan 4 games, 11 innings, 3 ER, 14 hits, 2-0 W/L record, and an ERA of 1.91;
