Pirates, Docomo Hustlers top Budweiser 8-Ball Cup

SBA and Saipan Electronic Darts Association head coordinator Warlee Ellama awarded trophies to eight of the league’s top teams for the season. In addition to the team awards, individuals were also recognized for their outstanding performance.

With the teams randomly split up into two divisions, a set of two teams were chosen for each award. The USSP Fotten Palaus dominated for first place in the Obyan Division while the Jonny’s IT&E Voyagers took first in the Agingan Division.

The VFW Shark Attacks fought for second place in the Obyan Division, along with the Utopia NTT Docomo Hustlers from the Agingan Division.

In third place came the USSP Watevers from the Obyan Division and the 10/10 Bud Brothers from the Agingan Division.

The Budweiser Cup Championship followed the regular season, and was based on the same rules from the 8-ball league.

All teams from both divisions started on a pre-determined bracket system and played through a ‘best of four,’ single elimination tournament.

Two teams were declared the Budweiser Cup Champions, which included the D’ Pirates’ Team Pirates and the Utopia NTT Docomo Hustlers, who racked up their second award for the afternoon.

The Team Pirates were made up of team captain Juan Camacho, Edward Suzuki, Dave Maratita, Patrick Cepeda, James Reyes, Bert Rufugio, Jack Cepeda, and Rodney Aldan.

The Hustlers consisted of team captain Senen Pangilinan, Jerry Soriano, Rowel Mariano, Joey Lucido, Robert Sanciangco, Jomer Enriquez, Boyet Sequioco, and Erwin Gomez.

John Mongami and Jerry Soriano were recognized for the Run the Rack category.

Dave Maratita rejoiced as he was the sole recipient of the 8-Ball on Break award.

Bill Limes, Arnel Orbita, Chester Hamoy, and Rolly Villanueva were honored as the league’s Most Valuable Players for the season.

The USS Peleliu Club was also given a plaque of appreciation, which was received by Ken Phillips.

Registration for the next Budweiser Open 8-Ball League is currently ongoing, according to Warlee Ellama. A captain’s meeting will be held at Jonny’s Bar and Grill on August 15, and will start at 6 pm.
