Rabauliman leads Mobil past Prospects, 75-68

Team Prospects were able to nab a 9 point lead over team Mobil after Jun Abedes garnered 11 points, 21-12. Team Prospects were able to snatch the lead again at the bottom of the third quarter.

Mobil stepped it up a notch and quickly put an end to team Prospects’ lead after Jun Estolas nailed a three pointer shot.

Teammate Marvin Rabauliman was seen stealing the ball thrice to mark 9 points giving team Mobil the edge it needed to slice through Prospect, 37-33.

Centerman George De Guzman was able to sneak past two defenders for six points while grabbing two more charity shots after being followed midway through a jumpshot during the last two minutes of the third quarter.

However, this was not enough to keep the Prospects at bay. Abedes slipped past De Guzman several times for 9 points snatch the lead from last season’s champions, 53-50.

Missed passes and stolen possessions hindered Mobil’s usual winning streak. But Gyles Ruluked quickly corrected the team’s mistakes.

Ruluked received quick inbound passes across the arena for three undefended layup shots. Ruluked tallied a total of 9 points in the last quarter to serve team Prospects with yet another upset, 75-68.

Ferrera 75, Cagers 68

The Ferrera Builders endured a rough encounter with the Smart Cagers, 75-68, during the second game last Monday night.

The latter grabbed the driver’s seat of the game early into the competition with Pete Iguel’s eight point marker in the first quarter, 17-14.

The Ferrera Builders stepped it up a notch and were able to surpass the Smart Cagers by one point after Mike Cruz knocked 9 points down, 34-33.

The Builders stretched their shaky one point lead to two points at the bottom of the quarter. Kae Bernardo was able to steal possession from the Smart Cagers thrice for six points.

Teammates Gilbert Miranda and Noel David each collared six points to foil the Smart Cagers, 54-52.

“The lead is in our possession so control the ball. Take your time and look for good passes down the court. One center player and one of our forwards will be waiting to make the cut,” said Ferrera Builders’ Head Coach Eddie Tamayo in a called time-out during the first two minutes of the fourth.

Two players were taken out of the game in the last two minutes and 18 seconds of the fourth quarter due to uncontrolled conduct between the Smart Cagers’ Darwin Barbo (28) and the Ferrera Builders’ Kae Bernardo (2).

This, however, did not stop the Ferrera Builders from securing the game away from the Smart Cagers. The former pulled in a total of 21 points in the last quarter to bag the win, 75-68.

“When the players cannot handle their conduct anymore on the court that gives us [the referees] the privilege to handle it for them by ejecting them out of the game,” explained officiating referee Ra Lizama.

“In this case, the players [Darwin Barbo and Kae Bernardo] were already throwing elbows at each other and it our duty to keep them safe during the game. There is a fine line that we can cross when the situation calls for it. Ejecting from the game was the best decision,” Lizama added.

Scores:

Ferrera Builders — K. Bernardo 17, N. David 14, M. Mungcal 14, M. Cruz 12, R. Yabut 8, G. Miranda 6, J. Abuy 3, J. Mabinga 2.

Smart Cagers — P. Iguel 19, E. Peredo 15, B. Montano 9, D. Barbo 8, M. De Dios 6, M. Park 4, M. Manalo 4, M. Usi 3.
