Run Saipan Zombie 5K set for Oct. 28

THE second annual Run Saipan Halloween-themed “Zombie 5K” event will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Garapan Fishing Base.

This year, participants will test their skills and courage by outrunning an “elite zombie horde on the spooky paths of Beach Road.”

Run Saipan President Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said they also made some rule changes.

“There is no wave start. We drafted an ‘army of the  undead’ this year, so we don’t have to tap runners to chase other runners down,” he said. “We should have a good number of volunteers to booby trap the course with ‘zombies.’ ”

Depending on how many participants there are during race day, Dela Cruz said he will reveal how the survivor mechanics work during a briefing.

There will also be a costume contest. “This year we wanted to focus on the Halloween theme. We will have prizes for the best costumes. They have to walk, jog, crawl or run the entire 5K to be eligible for the contest,” Dela Cruz said.

“This year thanks to All Star Sporting Goods and The Athletes Foot, we have prizes for our first ever Halloween costume contest,” he added. “So a big thank you and appreciation to Patty Palacios and company for the prizes. Thank you also to Jersh Angeles and FAT Sports NMI for collaborating with us by creating a shirt for the occasion.”

These limited edition performance short-sleeve shirts will be available for purchase in the start/finish area. Fat Sports will accept cash/PayPal for payment. Interested individuals could order now by calling (670) 287-7387.
