The two ‘winningless’ teams of the Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League played against each other last Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym, with some crowds cheer on the benches as if the game was a championship match.
Well, Saints and Rollers II may not be able to advance to the finals even if they win the two games left for each of them.
Saints hold a 1-4 win-loss card, while Rollers II now carry a 0-7 win-loss ticket.
While both teams were keen to make the first win in the season, their match appeared to be the finals given their team ranking.
Zack Tudela of Saints came off with 38 points for his team without committing a single foul in the entire game.
Tudela marked the scoreboard with his shots during the first period.
He basically ruled the quarter with a series of one-pointer and one rainbow shot from the three-point line.
Tudela fashioned four more three-point attempts in the second quarter and these caused Rollers II’s to hit some bumps along the way.
In the final minutes of the game, Rollers II got stuck with 40 points due to turnovers.
Several times the Chalan Kanoa cagers intercepted the ball as they try to make a long pass of the ball to their men at the other end of the court.
Each time, Saints connected to the basket.
