‘SAPTember Youth Volleyball’ tourney still lacks refs, teams

CGC is the host government agency for the said volleyball games.

In an interview early this week, Becky Covarrubias, sports coordinator and CGC’s CNMI tobacco quit line coordinator, said no interested groups have submitted their application/registration forms to the sports committee.

No registration fee is required for teams to join in the tournament.

Deadline for submission of team applications will be on September 12.

Under the rules of the tournament, a maximum of six teams is allowed to join in the four divisions, which are Boys 18-under, Girls 18-under, Boys 14-under, and Girls 14-under.

The youth volleyball games will be held on September 20 and 21 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The volleyball event is in line with the governor’s declaration of SAPTember & Recovery Awareness Month this year.

Previously, Covarrubias said only one student volunteered to officiate as referee for the event.

“I’m confident that people will respond to our call positively,” she stated, saying CGC wish to provide a healthy outlet for young people where they can show sportsmanship and camaraderie in the games.

CGC is under the Department of Public Health.
