The Red Impulse has both a boys and girls team to compete with on-island teams from the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Association and the Coalition of Private Schools Sports Association.
Teams representing Saipan will be made up of MISO all stars players, COPSSA all stars players, 2010-2011 MISO Girl’s Basketball Champions from Marianas High School, and the 2010-2011 MISO Boy’s Basketball Champions from Kagman High School.
A player’s clinic was held last Saturday to orient all players with ground rules that will govern the tournament. The tournament will be governed under FIBA rules and the clinic was headed by Elias Rangamar, the National Basketball Developmental Coach.
A total of 12 games were lined up yesterday at the Marianas High School gymnasium with the opening ceremony welcoming all players and spectators at 7:30 am. The first game emitted sparks as the MISO-All stars players endured to grueling encounters first colliding with the Settsu Red Impulse team followed by the COPSSA-All stars team.
The games continue to blaze on today through tomorrow. Today marks the semi-finals of the friendly tournament and tomorrow marks the finals and the championship round.
Admissions are 25 cents for elementary and high school students who show up at the MHS gym with valid identification cards, 50 cents for students who do not have identification cards, and $1 for adults.
All proceeds will go towards relief aid for the Japan Earthquake victims so everyone is highly encourage to come out and enjoy a good game of basketball and support the victims of Japan.
