SHIRLEY’S Football Club topped the Flores-Pee Luwal division of the Dove Women’s League Spring 2024 by blanking MP United Football Club Pink, 3-0, at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Sunday.
SFC was quick and ferocious as they applied pressure right from the start. Their aggressive approach seemed to have caught MPU Pink by surprise as they failed to set up their defensive line in time, allowing SFC’s Jeraldine Castillo to slip through and find the back of the net after just two minutes of play, 1-0.
MPU Pink made sure not to repeat the same mistake twice as they focused on protecting their end of the field and stood their ground for the next 15 minutes. But as the game progressed, fatigue started to show. Slowly but surely, SFC broke down MPU Pink’s defensive walls with constant attacks and eventually succeeded with Mikayla Lopez sinking her first goal of the match at the 21st minute mark to extend the deficit, 2-0.
After the halftime break, MPU Pink attempted to cook a rally, but they remained empty handed. SFC, for their part, gained the spotlight once again with a late-game push at the 50th minute mark as Marrielle Gariguez connected the dagger to seal the deal, 3-0, and claim the division title.
Also joining the winner’s circle were Matansa Football Club, which defeated Latte Football Club, 4-1, and MP United Football Club Blue, which outplayed Kanoa Football Club, 3-0.
