SKOBA won the men’s division title at the 2nd Annual Labor Day Softball Tournament on Sunday, defeating Mamaaw in the double-elimination finals at Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
The teams first met in the semifinals, with Skoba coming out victorious and securing a spot in the finals, while Mamaaw dropped to the loser’s bracket. After eliminating Blue Jays, Mamaaw returned to the finals for a rematch against Skoba.
In the first game of the finals, Skoba started strong, recording three outs in the top of the opening inning. In the bottom half, Skoba connected back-to-back singles, followed by a 2-RBI single from Salas. Darion added another RBI with a sacrifice fly, giving Skoba a 3-0 lead.
Mamaaw broke through in the top of the third inning with four runs, but Skoba answered with a two-run homer by Nathan Camacho, keeping the score 5-4. Both teams traded runs over the next several innings, with Mamaaw scoring three in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth, while Skoba added six runs by the bottom of the sixth to trail 12-11.
In the top of the seventh inning, Mamaaw scored three more runs to take a 15-11 win. With both teams holding one loss each, a decisive second game was held.
Skoba came back determined, scoring three runs in the first inning from RBI singles by Jordan, Brian, and Keith, followed by three more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. They held Mamaaw scoreless through two innings. In the third inning, Skoba added three runs while Mamaaw scored two. Skoba extended their lead in later innings, eventually winning 15-8 to claim the men’s division championship.
Mamaaw finished second and Blue Jays took third place.
Skoba’s Nathan Camacho was named the Championship MVP.
