Sonics thunder in Ada Gym, crash Rollers II

Sonics crashed Rollers II 53-30, on Thursday last week’s Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Sonics basically outplayed Rollers II, which got into a mess even during the first period of play when it committed nine team fouls.

Mark Dela Cruz, Augustine Hocog, Mike Eclevia, and Nicko Salem poured in eight points each for the team to propel them up to the final seconds.

Dela Cruz was the only one among the four highest Sonics scorers who did not get counted on the list of individual fouls.

Dela Cruz was the second Sonics man to connect to the basket in the game and the one who closed said period with a two-pointer.

Sonics left 25 points in the first period, while Rollers II laid down 14 shots only. This situation made it difficult for Rollers II to catch up in the second period as the 11-point deficit proved to huge a feat to break, or at least, to tie.

Several turnovers by Rollers II were some of the culprits that prevented the team from putting in the needed points on the board.

Luck was on the side of Sonics that day that point man Leo Galarse opened up the second period for the team with a three-point basket.

Moreover, Hocog, Galarse, Alvin Salas were the major players for the Sonics who created a big deficit against Rollers II during the second period.

Last week’s game was the first time for Sonics and Rollers II to meet face to face.
