The Sparks obtained the lead of the game head on into the first quarter of the game. Together they were able to scored 11 points while the G-Stars were only able to total a gross of 10 points. The score was tied in the last 50 seconds of the game but the Spark’s Sahj Hossain sealed the first quarter victoriously with a down town shot to edge past the G-Stars by a point, 11-10.
The G-Stars re-route past the Sparks in the second quarter of the game while center man Edward Manalili scored 5 points and teammate Christian De Vero contributed his four pence to get the G-Stars back into the game.
The scores were 21 points all after the Sparks tied with Eugene Manglona’s charity shot but I wasn’t long before De Vero connected a successfully jump shot to break the tie. Unwilling to go down without a challenge, Hossain banked a downtown shot to push the Sparks above the G-Stars by a point.
The G-Stars’ Jr Concepcion then sealed the quarter with a lay up shot. By half time the G-Stars aviated past the Sparks by a hairline, 25-24.
Both teams entered the SRYBL once more for the second half of the game. The Sparks finally got it’s act together while the G-Stars were still lacking quite a bit of important players like one of their point guards, Marvin Rabauliman who was also missing play offs night.
The Sparks took not time for grief or showed no mercy to the G-Stars as Manglona drove several times in against enemy lines for several off the key shots and was able to collar three of them for 6 points.
This then gave his team the upper hand of the game upon entering the last quarter of the bout.
Manglona scored another 6 points in the final quarter of the game but was taken abruptly out after the G-Stars’ Edward Manalili elbowed him in the nose which caused Manglona a bleeding nose for the rest of the game. The referees however, did not call any sort of foul on this or any other violations that infuriated coach Zachary Babauta and eventually the game proceeded on. The Sparks then displayed a strong sense of teamwork after the team pulled together for another deficit of 9 points to secure the third place over all in the entire league, 53-48.
