The clinic is open to children who can swim freestyle but want to improve their technique. It will also serve as a practice for prospective participants in this weekend’s All Schools Swim Meet set for October 15.
The clinic will “focus on stroke techniques and kicking,” according to a press release.
Enrollment is limited to 20 registrants and pre-registration may be done today by emailing Lisa Kimball at [email protected].
“It will be my first [swim clinic] but I am so excited to share my experience with the kids. I used to be a swim coach in Japan before I came to Saipan and I worked with SSC for a year,” Carey told Variety.
The pro-triathlete noted swimming as her “strongest part” of her races and “would love to help develop kids’ sports in Saipan.”
“Some kids might be a potential future athlete. My goal for the clinic of course is for all participants to improve their swim skills but I also want to teach them how fun it is to do any sport in their life,” she added.
While the clinic is currently aimed for children, the SSC also hopes to invite interested adults in the future.
The upcoming All Schools Swim Meet expects 120 participants this weekend and involves Whispering Palms School, Grace Christian Academy, Saipan Community School, Mt. Carmel School, Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, Hopwood Jr. High School, Chacha Jr. High School, and Garapan, San Vicente, Dan Dan, Kagman, and Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.
Warm up starts at 7 a.m. while the competition starts at 8 a.m.
