THE Toros and the Braves will face each other in the finale of the 2023 Saipan Baseball League U12 Tournament after eliminating their respective semifinal opponents Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Baseball Field.
The Toros had a tough game but they managed to hold their ground and fend off the Comets, 10-9.
The Toros entered the first inning swinging as their first four at bat — Yuki Castro, Leighton Tenorio, Caleb Cabrera and Ben Lizama — rounded the bases for four consecutive runs.
The Comets then scored three runs in the bottom half to stay within reach, 3-4.
The Toros tried to regain the safe distance with two runs, but the Comets retaliated in the bottom of the second inning with a two-RBI triple highlighted by Trey Manglona to stay close, 5-6.
The Toros continued to press forward adding two more runs while the Comets could only score one to stay afloat, 6-8.
The Comets then silenced the Toros in the fourth and fifth innings while scoring two runs for the game’s first deadlock, 8-8.
But the Toros recovered in the top of the sixth with two runs to lead by two points.
The Comets nearly pulled a late-game comeback with a run scored and a runner on second base, but pitcher Leighton Tenorio struck out the next batter for the third out, which sealed the deal for the Toros, 10-9.
The Braves, for their part, secured their ticket to the championship game by shooting down the Blue Jays, 11-0, in four innings.
The Toros and the Braves will vie for the title this Saturday.
