Torres the reigning champion of the last tournament in 2006 birdied in Hole No. 1 and then, double eagled all the way to the Hole No. 8.
The senior citizens version of golf tournament, according to organizer, Walter Manglona highlights the Older Americans Month celebration spearheaded by overall committee chairperson, Rosa Mondala.
Torres who also won in Hokuhota Japanese Ground Golf Festival a few years ago grossed 19 to win this year’s championship for men’s division.
In women’s division, Paula Mereb and Sitae Terry tied in gross 23, so they had to break it on a tee off.
About 47 participated in the tournament which Manglona said the Manamko center, headed by Mondala wants to make an annual event.
The ground golf tournament was introduced by Japanese senior citizens from Tutori, Japan who visited Saipan through the Pacific Development Inc., years ago.
