Trench Tech returns to IBJJF Asian Open; to hold bingo fundraisers

TEAM Trench Tech will compete in the Asian Jiu-Jitsu International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Championship, scheduled for June 19 to 22 at the Chiba Port Arena in Japan.

Competitors representing the NMI and Trench Tech are Cuki Alvarez, Jessica Ma, Noah Quitugua, Drey Aldan, Daryn Roufs, and Mariana Alvarez.

“We competed in 2018 and 2019 then, in 2020, Covid happened. So, this is the first time back since then — this will be our third trip,” said Trench Tech founder Cuki Alvarez.

He said his team has been training and competing on Guam at the Marianas Open and Copa De Marianas events for the past couple of years. “We now want to travel to other parts of the world and represent the CNMI,” Cuki said. “There will be over 1,200 competitors from around the world.”

Trench Tech has also been competing at the Patgon Jiu-Jitsu Tournament on Guam since 2022.

“Since 2022, we have brought over 50 kids to date to compete there since it first started,” Cuki said. “So far, we have about 10 kids confirmed. Most of them have competed several times already since 2022. We will be bringing a few first-time competitors as well, so that will be the only change.”

The next Patgon Jiu-Jitsu Tournament on Guam is slated for Aug. 9.

Trench Tech will host fundraisers — one for the Asian Jiu-Jitsu International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Championship and another for the Patgon Jiu-Jitsu Tournament.

The IBJJF bingo fundraiser will be held on June 8 at Marv’s Kitchen at Saipan Vegas while the bingo fundraiser for the kids will be held on July 12 and 26.
