Open to men and women 16 years and older, the arm wrestling or kodu which was popularized in a movie, Over the Top many years ago, is another way of giving sports fans more entertainment, Trench Tech president and mixed martial arts promoter, Cuki Alvarez said.
To be held for the first time on Saipan, the Armed for War set for Oct. 24 is another sort of a challenge for sports people who do not want to get punched in the face, but will give them the opportunity to test their strength, he added.
Trench Tech and Club V who have been business partners for sometime now, were talking about bringing in something that would not require big space and exhaustive preparations but will give the audience the same excitement they get from MMA events.
Most importantly, Alvarez said the proceed of the inaugural arm wrestling challenge will be donated to Men Against Violence group.
Arm wrestling, he noted is one way of diverting an individual’s aggressive behavior so it would not cause any harm to anybody around him.
The Arm for War will have challengers in three divisions, lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight. The official registration day is on Oct. 24 and the entrance fee is $10.
It is also open to body builders and MMA fighters. Aside from Club V and Saipan Grand Hotel the other sponsors of the event are Miller Lite and Docomo.
Cash and a lot of other prizes await the winning challengers.
