Ultimate disc tourney coming soon

The entrance fee is set at $15 which will include a classic “Saipan Ultimate” t-shirt.

There have been many years of Ultimate Disc played on Saipan.

Originally at American Memorial Park, but the ADA field has been the preferred site for several years now.

Traditionally the Disc is played on the Ada field on Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 5:00 p.m. until dusk.

Most of the time it is a ‘drop-in’ basis and two balanced teams are formed on the spot to play against each other.

Sometimes organized teams are formed and then league play is done on Wednesdays with Fridays still open to all for drop-in play.

Saipan Ultimate has traveled to many off island tournaments in the past, including to Bali and Manila.

Some years there has been enough interest to form leagues, like this year. When people play together for an extended period the team gets better as a whole and becomes more coordinated.

This kind of play helps when there is enough interest in going to a tournament. Typically there are more men than women playing, and finding enough women able to travel to a tournament has been Saipan Ultimate’s greatest challenge.

This year the organization is promoting women into the sport with special prizes for female participants on the day of competition.

This is a fun tournament for all levels of adult players. The tourney’s goal is to promote Ultimate Disc and the “spirit of the Game” along with the advocacy of living a healthier life.

A ‘Hat Tournament’ will mean that the organization will draw names from a hat to form teams. Along with the ‘Hat Tournament’ the organization would like to spice the tournament up by having a Halloween theme as well.

The organization encourages participants to bring a couple of small costume pieces such as wigs, hats, false noses; anything that can be placed in a box so that when a competitor scores a point there will be a costume penalty imposed.

The participant must pick a costume to wear in the spirit of Halloween.

The organization also encourages spectators as well as the players to bring their own lawn chairs or mats to sit on and relax whilst watching a great tournament.

The tournament is geared for adults, with foods and drinks but the organization would also like to ask the participants to please bring a snack food item for the Pot Luck that will follow shortly after the tournament.
