Universiade Village to officially close Aug. 26

The village would be transferred to the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, which will transform it into a new campus.

“The village has been operating smoothly since it opened Aug. 6, accommodating 10,615 athletes and officials from 152 countries and regions by Thursday,” said Liu.

“Most foreign athletes and officials have spoken highly of the village facilities and services,” said Liu.

Stores selling a variety of goods including stamps and souvenirs reported daily sales volume of more than 350,000 yuan (US$54,688), Liu said.

A Universiade museum would be put together after the Games to house the Games’ legacies such as gifts from delegations and words written by village visitors, Liu said.

Whether the village would be open to the public after the Games has not been decided. Ying Shihong, a spokeswoman for the village committee, said it would be decided after further research.
