VIK Team earned their third win in the open division of the 2023 Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club Invitational Basketball League by beating the 670 Rollers, 99-84, Monday at the Gualo Rai basketball court.
Vik Team only had six players, but it did not affect their performance as their chemistry and strong finishes were enough to fend off the young 670 Rollers.
Joseph Torres, Tristan Montes and San De Vero led Vik Team in the opening quarter while Gino Asauo of the 670 Rollers delivered 14 points to remain within striking distance, 21-22.
The 670 Rollers also applied full court pressure, but their missed shots and turnovers kept them behind as Vik Team widened their lead to seven.
In the second half of the game, the 670 Rollers failed to have a firm grip on the ball while Vik Team excelled in fastbreaks led by Reymark Castro and De Vero who each scored seven points.
At one point, the 670 Rollers managed to cut the lead down to 12, but they failed to maintain efficiency and fell out of reach once more, 55-72.
The 670 Rollers’ biggest run was seen in the fourth and final quarter as Asauo and Freddy Pelisamen heated up. But Vik Team matched up to hold the safe distance and secure the win, 99-84.
