The organization is now looking for volunteers who can man the booth and provide any kind of bike related activity during the event.
As of yesterday there were many interested participants. Cyclist and Guam’s extreme adventure race champ, Tyce Mister is willing to host a Health Fair Bike Relay provided that the community contributes their portable bicycle trainers for the day for the lesson. In addition to the line up, the organization is asking teachers or those knowing teachers to encourage their students to draw pictures of anything on cycling or cycling awareness.
The NMITF group would also like to remind cyclists that it is very dangerous to cycle without backlights and reflectors to prevent injury especially if cyclists choose to cycle early in the morning and late in the afternoon. “As we all know, it is risky enough to ride during regular daylight with all the varying levels of driver competence, so please take the proper steps necessary to be seen during low light times” added Jim Arenovski.
The booth that’s been given to organization is a great opportunity to promote cycling awareness, pick up great wellness info, meet great people, have great fun, and get some great gifts now offered by sponsor Subway.
It’d be great to get at least 3-4 volunteers to man the booth for a couple of hours each, and for someone to perform an activity like a basic bike maintenance and repair class, explain the essentials of what’s needed to get involved in cycling, help kids draw pictures related to cycle safety, or whatever other idea the community can think of to help promote bicycle safety.
Please contact Paul Plunkett at pbpcp@yahoo.comif: 1) if you can spend a couple of hours helping at the booth and what time works best for you, 2) any cycling related activity ideas you or someone else might be able to provide to the event, 3) if you can make a couple of hundred copies of safety message and 4) any other ideas you have for the event or cycling safety in general.
Special thanks are being extended out to Brad Ruszala and the Pacific Islands Club for offering to print out bicycle safety pamphlets for the community and Subway for sponsoring the event and booth as well.
