TEAM Wettz moved up to third place in the NMI Softball Association Women’s League leaderboard after earning their fourth win by outhustling the Dirty Diamonds, 13-10, at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field on Saturday.

Wettz seemed to get off to a strong start when Maria Igitol hit a double that turned into a scored run due to an error by the Dirty Diamonds.

In the bottom half of the opening inning, the Dirty Diamonds scored four runs led by Mo Sablan with a triple that brought in Amanda Santos and Rachel Salalila to earn two RBIs along the way and seize the lead, 4-1.

However, in the top of the second inning, the Dirty Diamonds failed to maintain efficiency on the defensive end, committing a handful of unforced errors.

With a solid hitting performance, Wettz brought in additional runs to take control, 8-4.

Throughout the next few innings, both teams focused on defense. Dirty Diamonds eventually squeezed in three more runs, but Wettz notched two runs of their own to maintain the upper hand, 11-7.

In the seventh and final inning, Wettz attempted to seal the deal with Vickyann Pangelinan’s sacrifice fly that brought in Analyn Olopumar and Keona Rogopes, scoring off an error to extend the deficit, 13-7.

However, in the bottom half, the Dirty Diamonds staged a rally that was highlighted by Rachel Salalila’s two-RBI double. She was later brought home by Mo Sablan’s sacrifice fly to reduce the gap, 10-13.

But the Dirty Diamonds were allowed only one more hit before Wettz collected the three outs needed to end the game victorious. Wettz are now in third place in the team standings with four wins and two losses.
