THE NMI’s La Hunn Lam and Nason Wessel won the Boys Doubles 14 event of the 2023 Pacific Oceania Junior Championships after defeating their fellow NMI players Ryan Choi and Siwoo Lee, 6-1, 6-3, on Wednesday in Lautoka, Fiji.

Lam and Wessel gave it their all in the finals as they quickly took control in the first set. Their continuous pressure left Choi and Lee with very little to work with.

In the second set, Choi and Lee started to find a few openings, giving their opponents a good scare. But Lam and Wessel closed all  the cracks in their defensive wall and eventually overcame their opponents to triumph, 6-3, and claim the title.

Also on Wednesday, the NMI’s Henry Choi and June Yu clinched third place in the Boys Doubles 16 event by defeating Samoa’s Darius Carruthers and Titus Paul, 6-0, 6-7, 10-7.

The NMI’s Anne Lee and Lina Tsukagoshi, for their part, secured fifth place in the Girls Doubles 14 by outlasting Samoa’s Maryallyson Vaai and Nualelai Vaai, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6.
