THE winners of the first ever NMI Women’s Run on March 27, 2021 were honored Thursday at the Oleai Sports Complex by Northern Marianas Athletics.
The U18 age group was topped by Kaithlyn Chavez who clocked in a spectacular time of 47:57, a possible record by the 13-year-old.
In the open division, Jenny Chhea led the pack with a time of 49:18; Katarina Obsivavona (52:38) reigned in the 35-39 age group; Sarka Glajchova (49:58) ruled the 40-44 age group; An Eunho (01:04:27) dominated the 45-49 age group; Lydia Tan (53:14) was victorious in the 50-54 age group; Marie Sablan (01:11:52) was numero uno in the 55-59 age group; Juanita Fajardo (01:12:17) was triumphant in the 60-64 age group; and Lily Muldoon was the overall first place winner with a finish time of 43:42.
The team event was won by Team SIS Cares for Animals which consisted of Noriko Jim, who finished the last leg of the race, Sarka Glajchova, Anika Snyder and Tiana Cabrera clocking in at 02:27:23. They were followed by NMIFA B at 02:37:10; Team Agape, 02:38:55; Short Shorts and Long Runs, 02:43:09; and NMIFA A, 02:56:01.
The winning team chose Saipan Cares for Animals as the recipient of the prize money.
“It’s a first in Micronesia to host a 10k championship, and it was a good turnout — we had 102 registrations,” shared Northern Marianas Athletics secretary general Robin Sapong.
“We will most likely make this a yearly event,” he added.
Most races had been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but Sapong said they decided to hold a Women’s Run in March in honor of women and Women’s History Month.
