THE sport of Roccball has begun its 40th season of annual games at Marianas High School.
This year there are eight teams in competition for the playoffs: Nakama, Tomodachi, I’d Hit That or IHT, Phan Gotte, Lotus, Bandits, Sufa, and Dusty Feetz,
The first of seven rounds of competition of four games per week ended Friday, Jan. 13, 2023. The Roccball games are played at MHS from 11:30 a.m. and end after three sets of play are completed. The team that wins the third set of play with the most game points scored wins the game.
In the first round of play, last year’s veterans of teams Tomodachi and Nakama won their first games. The heavy hitter of the game between Tomodachi and IHT was Jerome Monzon of Tomodachi. Jerome scored 6 aces and 3 goals. In the game between Nakama and Phan Gotte, players from both teams scored in all of Roccball’s scoring techniques that include court points, aces, xunks, jam, kee, and goals. Josiah Cruz of Phan Gott was the games heavy hitter with 4 aces and 1 goal.
In the games between first year teams Lotus vs Sufa and Dusty Feetz vs Bandits, Lotus defeated Sufa and the Bandits defeated Dusty Feetz. Nohel Simina of Dusty Feets and Mino Chuweiluk of team Sufa were their team’s heavy hitters in those games.
