RUN Saipan on Saturday morning showed its support for the Marianas Visitors Authority’s annual Tourism Month cleanup by picking up trash in Marpi.
From the Korean Memorial to the Last Command Post area, members of Run Saipan collected a large amount of trash, mainly on the roadside, Run Saipan President Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said.
“I ask people who are transporting their trash to the landfill to please properly secure it because that’s where all the roadside trash came from,” he added.
“It’s our second time to support MVA’s cleanup,” Dela Cruz said.
Joining Run Saipan were Northern Marianas Athletics runners, Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance and Salty Skin Pacific.
“Thank you all for supporting MVA and our tourism industry,” Dela Cruz said.
Group run
Run Saipan’s members also held their first group run in Marpi at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
“When Run Saipan first started, we made it our mission to run monthly races for our runners in Saipan,” Dela Cruz said.
“After successfully hosting more than 21 races and collaborations with government and private entities, we are moving on to our next phase which is social runs,” Dela Cruz added, referring to their non-competitive three-mile uphill jog in Marpi.
