SUFA beats Asahi, 12-7

SUFA defeated Asahi, 12-7,  in a Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League game Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.

It started as a fairly even match. SUFA scored two runs in the opening inning but Asahi replied with four runs thanks to Dominic Hideo and Edgar Ito who contributed two-run homers each for a  4-2 lead.

SUFA then stepped up defensively and kept Asahi silent for the next two innings while notching two runs in the second inning and one more in the top of the third to seize the lead, 5-4.

SUFA scored another run in the top of the fourth  due to an error, but Asahi bounced back with two runs delivered by Steve Brol’s two-RBI single to even the score, 6-6.

The seesaw battle continued with both teams adding a run each by the end of the sixth inning. At crunch time, however, SUFA unleashed a five-run rally. Paul Salalila and Jude Dickenson each belted a two-run homer while Mel Tenorio joined the highlight reel with a solo homerun as their team stormed to a 12-7 lead.

Asahi had one last chance to rally, but SUFA’s defense resulted in three quick outs to end the game.
