SUFA edges Redmen to take 3rd place in softball league

SUFA clinched  third place at the conclusion of the Belau Amateur Softball League after outlasting the Redmen, 15-14, on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.

The battle for third place was as exciting as a championship game as both teams exploded with offensive plays right from the start.

The Redmen were the first to draw blood as they took advantage of SUFA’s inability to control the ball.

Three of the six runs made in the very first inning were due to SUFA’s errors that allowed Redmen Mark, Jason and Jun reach the home base.

The Redmen then held down SUFA to four runs at the bottom of the first inning to maintain the upper hand, 6-4.

But the Redmen’s reign was brief. They suddenly lost their swing, scoring one run only while  SUFA’s Jude, Paul and Pat highlighted a six-run rally with a homerun each to snatch the lead, 10-7.

The game started to slow down as defense took over on both ends but the Redmen made sure they did not give up without a fight.

At the top of the sixth inning, four runs were made by the Redmen with Dave delivering a solo homerun while team-mates Jaime, Joe and Greg reached home to give their team the lead, 14-11.

The Redmen seemed to be on the verge of victory, but SUFA’s players thought otherwise.

SUFA’s Paul hit a three-run homer to give his team the lead, 15-14.

The Redmen had one more chance to seal the deal at the top of the seventh, but they ended up popping fly balls, resulting in three consecutive outs and a SUFA victory.
