Tan Holdings donates equipment to basketball clubs, $5,000 to NMIBF

AS part of Tan Holdings Corp.’s 50th anniversary celebration, it donated equipment to five local basketball clubs and $5,000 to the Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation on Sunday during the awards ceremony of the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League at the TSL Sports Complex.

Tan Siu Lin Foundation Executive Director Merlie Tolentino announced that in appreciation of the successful tournament, they were donating 20 balls and 30 markers to each basketball club on island. These clubs are Ol’Aces, MadFlex, Rollers, Sixers, and Titans.

“Thank you very much for making this first league successful. All the villages of the NMI were represented through basketball thanks to the help of the NMIBF,” Tolentino said.

“Because we’re celebrating  Tan Holdings’ 50th anniversary, and because basketball is doing a lot more since James Lee took over the NMIBF, we are happy to announce that we are also going to donate $5,000 cash to the NMIBF for their national team program,” Tolentino added.

“Don’t just aim to play for a club — aim to play for the national team and experience playing in other countries,” she told the players.

On behalf of the NMIBF, its president James Lee received the check from Tolentino.

“We are definitely happy that they have been here for 50 years and hopefully for 50 more years,” Lee said, referring to Tan Holdings.

The Tan Siu Lin Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Tan Holdings.

In his remarks during the awards ceremony, Lee also thanked the “athletes, coaches and parents…for being here and making this event successful. Our goal is to pass this on and maybe also do a league out in the village and that’s why we wanted each team to represent a village,” he added.
