Tan’s new personal best time is 10:34.62.
“I’ve been training since August 2022 because we had cross country in the fall and now it’s indoor and outdoor track,” said Tan who finished eighth overall among 37 runners.
“I’m very surprised I broke [my] record because it’s our season opener and I didn’t expect to run that fast,” she added.
She also noted that the 3000m race started at 9:15 p.m. which was not her usual time to compete. “It is super late for me because that’s usually my bedtime,” she said. “But I surprisingly felt good overall and am excited to see how I do the rest of the season!”
She added, “Also it’s always nice to represent the NMI wherever I am racing, even if I’m not wearing the NMI jersey.” Tan is currently a student of Fordham University in New York City.
The top three racers in the 3000m event were Molly Kuzma (Delaware) with a time of 10:12.48; Molly Kuzma (Johns Hopkins), 10:18.47; and Angie Petrichenko (unattached), 10:18:73.
