Ann Bang reaches the finish line to rule the women’s division of the inaugural Run Saipan Trinity race, Day 1, in the Kensington Hotel upper parking lot on Saturday.
SILDREY Veloria and Ann Bang finished first in their respective divisions on Day 1 of the inaugural Run Saipan Trinity on Saturday.
The 10k race stretched from Kensington Hotel to the Last Command Post and back.
Twenty-five runners participated in the challenging run that was highlighted by the rain and the slippery surfaces of the course.
Sildrey Veloria came in first with a time of 00:45:39. He was followed by Chad Taflinger with a time of 00:49:02 and Chong Nam Lee with a time of 00:49:43 to complete the top three in the men’s division.
In the women’s division, Ann Bang earned a first-place finish for the first time, clocking 00:54:36.
In second place was Rosemarie Chisato with a time of 00:55:14 followed by Terra Allen in third at 00:57:46.
Asked how she felt about her first-place finish, Bang said, “Yeah finally! I won but I know that my friends kept their energy for the other two days. That’s why I can win today, but tomorrow? Nobody knows — but I did my best today,” said the 49-year-old avid runner.
She added that despite the rain and the wet course, “it was good.” But she was definitely not looking forward to Day 2 of Run Saipan Trinity. “I’m not too good running uphill,” she said, referring to the 5k race to Mount Tapochao on Sunday.
The Day 3, 5k race will be held today, Monday, Jan. 16 on Beach Road.
