NMI long-distance runner Tania Tan set a new personal best record in the 10,000 meters event during the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Massachusetts over the weekend.
Tan clocked 37:10.89, and finished 11th against 23 other competitors.
She said she prepared for the race. “I prioritized rest and recovery to feel as good as possible for the weekend. I actually raced both the 10k and 5k back-to-back this weekend so getting quality sleep and nutrition was the main focus,” she added.
“I am happy that I was able to run a [personal best] for the 10k. I never would have imagined running the time I ran so it feels good knowing that all the hard work and perseverance paid off,” said Tan, a student at Fordham University in New York City.
“Since the academic semester is coming to an end, I think the toughest challenge has been balancing training, school, and work in the past few weeks as it is now finals season,” she added.
She is now looking forward to her next race. “I have one more race next weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Championship in Fairfax, Virginia so I hope to do my best again and close out the season strong.”
