Tasi To Table celebrates 3rd year, has new VP

TASI To Table on Tuesday hosted a night of celebration and recognition for the non-profit organization’s continued success. TTT at the same time announced that Dan Wollak is its new vice president.

Held at the Grill Restaurant of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort, the program provided supporters an overview of what TTT has accomplished so far while working with students of Marianas High School, Kagman High School, Da’ok Academy, Saipan Southern High School, Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Junior/Senior High School on Rota and Tinian Junior/Senior High School.

TTT likewise discussed its plans for moving forward in 2022.

The group’s secretary, Derik Reyes Jr., talked about their various youth programs such as boating safety, suicide prevention, environmental protection, overall self-development and fishing methodologies.

He said they have also launched events such as shoreline casting, Wahoo in the Marianas fishing derby, mahi derby and the newly added Tuna Mixed Classic.

He said TTT plans to host a derby with the Rota chapter students to mirror the Wahoo in the Marianas derby organized by Saipan students.

TTT president Gene Weaver, for his part, noted that their pilot program started with 30 students. The number has now grown to 100, he added.

“I did not anticipate that high number with around 30 people on the waiting list,” Weaver said.

However, just like any other organizations on island, TTT’s plans were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, he added.

“Hopefully we could start planning new community events after we accept the new normal, starting with the shoreline casting event that involves the community,” Reyes said.

Meanwhile, Weaver said their eight-month program “is being reshuffled to accommodate the changes” required by the safety protocols.

Also on Tuesday, TTT announced that Dan Wollak is its new vice president, succeeding Wayne Pangelinan.

A TTT adviser since it was established, Dan Wollak said, “I love what I’ve seen in the program and what it’s done for the students and the community, so I decided that I wanted to not just be an adviser but also see how I could help on the other end.”

Wollak is a physical education teacher at Marianas High School.
