Thailand routs NMI, 11-0, in AFC U17 women’s qualifier

THE NMI’s U17 Girls National Soccer Team lost to Thailand, 0-11, in their Asian Football Confederation-U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers game on Wednesday evening at the Buriram City Stadium in Buriram, Thailand.

Thailand controlled most of the possession throughout the first half during which majority of the goals were made. Chirarak Khamtan acted as the spark plug for the team as she connected the first goal of the day after just seven minutes of play.  Forward Sasi Lekphetr and midfielder Rinyaphat Moondong then took over the assault as they contributed additional goals for a comfortable 7-0 lead by halftime.

The NMI adjusted their defensive strategy in the second half, but they remained scoreless.

Thailand, for their part, still had extra firepower coming off the bench as Matika Thaprik and Aunchidtha Homtago added a goal each while Moondong earned her fourth goal to end the match with a dominant  11-0 victory.

“Thailand is a great team. They are quick, they are more technical, so it was hard for our team to adapt quickly.  However, collectively, our team did not give up.  They all worked very hard,” said NMI National Coach Luem Khen Koo. “Having opportunities to play against international teams is what our program needs and what our players need to experience.  Overall, I’m very proud of our team.” He added.

Today, Friday, the NMI will face Malaysia.
