SILDREY Veloria and Tiana Cabrera shared the spotlight in the 3rd Annual Triple J 5K Bubble Color Run as they topped their respective divisions on Saturday at the Garapan Fishing Base.

It was a truly colorful event as an estimated 1,200 participants joined the race whose color stations stretched along the route from the Garapan Fishing Base to the turnaround point at the Quartermaster intersection and back.

At the finish line, runners celebrated completing the race with sprays of bubbles.

Veloria ruled the male division with a finish time of 19 minutes.  Coming in second was Pony Tang with a time of 17:17 followed by Kosuke Sato in third place with 19:26.

Asked about his participation in the recent World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia, Veloria said, “I just focused on my training and went at my own pace because one of the participants I went up against is the world record holder of the 10K and 5K events  so there was no chance of me catching up with him. But I stuck to my pace and followed the rest. It was great — I was so excited to meet in person the people I idolized.”

He added, “Last thing I want to say is, ‘Hills pay the bills.’ ”

Female division

Tiana Cabrera bagged the female division overall title with a time of 23:00 while Bella Pastula (23:55) and Marjorie Daria (26:24) came in second and third.

“It was good, I just wanted to keep my pace and it ended well,”  Cabrera said.

When asked if it was tough running with a huge crowd, she said, “I loved it actually. I love these races because they push me — I love the excitement.”

In the U13 division, Emmon led the male runners with a time of 28:00, while Lovel Spaeth was the top female with a time of 30:49.
