DAVE Celis and Shane Alvarez stole the show in round 2 of the Marianas Racing Association 2021 Points Race Series after topping their respective divisions on Sunday at the Cow Town Raceway Park.
In the Veterans Class, it was Dave Celis who battled his way to the top of the ladder to finish first in heat 2.
Celis did not start strong in heat 1. Charles Cepeda was the rider to beat as he showcased his control by slipping through turns and executing jumps to stay ahead of the competition en route to a first place finish worth 25 points.
Cuki Alvarez finished second for 22 points while Celis settled for third with 20 points.
More of the same action was seen in heat 2. A crucial turning point, however, gave Celis a slight edge as he reached the inner edge of the track to take the lead.
Celis then remained in front and completed the laps in first place for 25 points. Combined with his results from heat 1, Celis amassed a total of 45 points to finish first.
He also earned 45 points in the first round of the series, giving him an overall total of 90 points.
Alvarez finished second in heat 1, giving him 22 points and a total of 44 points for a second place finish.
His overall score after two rounds is 88 points.
Charles Cepeda placed third in round 2 with 43 points, but overall, Melvin Cepeda remains third after scoring 45 in round 1 and 38 in round 2 for a total of 83 points.
With a total of 77 points, Cepeda is fourth overall.
Expert Class
In the Expert Class, Shane Alvarez returned to the scene after recovering from an injury.
He was unmatched as he sped through the track, claiming first place in both heats for a total of 50 points.
However, because he missed round 1, he is in sixth place overall.
Older brother Alverick Alvarez finished second on Sunday with 40 points while third placer Angelito Hernaez obtained 37 points.
Cuki Alvarez came in fourth, but still holds overall first place in the Expert Class with 87 points.
Hernaez is second with 81 points followed by Franklin Santos in third with 76 points.
Novice Class
As for Kier Agda in the Novice Class, his round 2 performance improved his overall standing.
He had two first-place finishes worth 50 points. Adding his 42 points in round 1 gives him an overall score of 92 points and the number one spot.
Henry Camacho Jr. earned 44 points on Sunday, finishing second in both heats. With 35 points in round 1, he is second overall with 79 points.
Arthur Jebehn is third overall with 38 points in round 2 and a similar score in round 1 for a total score of 76.
