MCS 1 is a tough team to beat primarily because of its players’ superb teamwork and communications.

Their first match was against Agape Christian School 1. The Knights — Richard Steele, Brandon Lee, Sam Ryu and Jun Beom Kim —  then proceeded to lead MCS 1 to victory by utilizing the three-touch strategy, punctuating most of their possessions with a powerful spike.

The Torchbearers of ACS 1 managed to score some points but they continued to play catch up, falling as far as 10 points behind.

As soon as the Knights regained their rhythm, they never ceased their onslaught, outgunning ACS 1, 21-13 for MCS 1’s first win of the day.

MCS 1’s next opponent were the Grace Christian Academy 1 Eagles.

GCA’s roster was filled with veteran players such as Steven Balakrishna, Christian Pamintuan and William Kim who had an answer for MCS’s assault.

Smart and early returns caught the Knights off-guard but the Eagles failed to maintain their efficiency.

For their part, the Knights flourished with each successful return that widened the gap even further.

The extra height and firepower of Merrick Toves kept his team in control as the Knights applied constant pressure while blocking each of GCA’s spike finishes en route to a 21-12 win.

The results of the other games on Saturday: Marianas High School 2 beat Agape Christian School 2, 21-14; Mount Carmel School 2  defeated Marianas High School 2, 21-15;  and Saipan International School trounced Agape Christian School 2, 21-7.
