“As a citizen I am interested to know what’s going on. And as a taxpayer I would like to know how much funds were disbursed and appropriated on certain programs,” he said.
Atalig furnished Variety a copy of his three-page request to Tinian Mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz.
Atalig said he wants to know more about the employment of former Senate Vice President Jose M. Dela Cruz in the mayor’s office.
In his letter dated Dec. 8, Atalig asked the mayor to provide copies “any correspondence and or any written communications from the Office of the Public Auditor and or the Office of the Attorney General and or any other law enforcement agency regarding your hiring or the employment of your brother, Jose M. Dela Cruz.”
He said the mayor’s brother was convicted seven years ago of a federal crime — conspiracy to commit wire fraud — and should not hold any government position.
The former Tinian senator was sentenced to two years in federal prison for hiring a “ghost employee.”
Atalig told Variety that he will resort to legal remedies if the Tinian mayor fails to reply to his request within 10 days as provided by the law.
He said he is willing to pay a reasonable charge for the duplication of any document or material that he requested.
He requested the following records from Jan. 1, 2010 to present pertaining to the transactions of the Tinian mayor’s office with other government agencies:
• Any and all travel authorizations, travel vouchers and trips reports;
• Any and all checks, materials and or other public documents pertaining to any official representation expenses and disbursement;
• Any and all contracts, agreements, copies of purchase orders or purchase requisition, notices of personnel actions and all requests for personnel action;
• Any and all receipts, checks issued by the Tinian municipal treasurer, and the Department of Finance;
• Any and all phone bills, phone statements, and phone records, and materials for all numbers subscribed and being paid by public funds;
• Any and all bills, payments, receipts, records, and material regarding any furniture acquired or purchased by the municipal government.
Atalig asked the Tinian mayor to communicate through his legal counsel Robert H. Myers.
