Twenty-six of the building permits with a value of $1.56 million were issued to commercial establishments, while 14 permits with a value of $1.35 million were issued to residential buildings. Only one permit was issued for a government building with a value of $270,000.
During the first quarter of the year, DPW issued 22 building permits, 7 of which were for commercial establishments while 13 were for residential buildings. Two permits were issued to government buildings. The total value of the permits issued from January to March this year reached $1.2 million only.
The number of building permits issued by DPW each year has been declining since 2006. From the 292 permits issued that year with a value of $11.79 million, it went down to 255 permits in 2007 with a value of $16.23 million.
In 2008, 213 permits were issued with a value of $43.99 million.
Last year, the department issued 120 building permits with a value of $16.23 million.
