Flores seeks military’s help

Flores said he wants to meet with an official of the U.S. Department of Defense regarding  the possibility of acquiring the surplus heavy equipment at the military base in Okinawa, Japan.

Due to the economic situation in the CNMI, he said it would be difficult to effectively address the needs of the community without  workable equipment.

He said a committee comprising all mayors in the CNMI and the governor’s office should be created to undertake a “dialogue” with DoD.

The mayor said he believes that Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan can help facilitate communication with DoD.

Flores said he plans to also ask the military for tools that can be used for community projects on Saipan.

The mayor’s office will come up with the list of heavy equipment it needs for community services, he added.

If the plan pushes through, he said, he will also ask DoD to help transport the equipment to the CNMI.
