A fallen betel nut tree causes power outage

The power outage started at 4:50 p.m. and was restored by 8 p.m., according to the Palau Public Utilities Corporation.

PPUC’s outage report stated that the betelnut tree hanging on the line located at Ngerbechedesau affected the 13.8KV feeders Airai-Airport and Airai-Koror.

PPUC crew removed the betel nut tree and advised operators to energize the 34.5 KV transmission lines and Airai-Airport and Airai-Koror 13.8 KV Feeders respectively.

Power would have been restored earlier but, PPUC engineers said that “there was a slight delay in energizing the Airai-Koror 13.8 KV feeder due to power deficiency caused by engine tripping in Aimeliik Power Plant.”

The power outage affected portions of Airai and Koror especially Medalii part, Topside and Ngermid areas.
