Docomo hands Ferrera first loss

The once-undefeated Ferreras controlled the court through most of the game, but were stopped by the Docomos in the final quarter, thanks to Elmer Esdrelon’s handy three-pointers.

Ferrera’s Rex Yabut and Kae Bernardo pulled off an easy six points at first, but were overwhelmed by Jun Estolas’ steals and Edwin Santos’ rebounds.

Estolas accompanied Esdrelon in the offense while James Lee and Ron Gamboa ruled in the rebound. With an arm over a Ferrera attacker, Lee successfully rejected the ball, giving control to team mate Larry Sharry.

Sharry marked two-points from a lay up, but was fouled immediately by Ferrera defenders. With a free throw shot, he earned his final point of the night, putting the Docomos at a five point lead.

With 14 seconds left on the clock, the Docomos kept hold of the ball, winning the game by 88-83. Leading by 10 points in the first quarter, the confident Ferreras didn’t have problems at first. Ferrera’s lead scorer James Abuy darted past Santos and Gamboa in the second and third quarter, piling 21 points for the game.

Both teams now boast a 6W-1L record in the league’s regular season, with the Ferreras ending their six-win streak last Wednesday.

IT&E 86, Team Buraot 76

Prior to the Docomos’ victory, the IT&Es also triumphed last Wednesday after crushing Team Buraot 86-76 in the QQ league’s first game.

Buraot’s Dave Sablan slammed an easy 10 points in the first quarter, hammering his way towards IT&E’s Ehroll Peredo and Robert Naraja. Nonetheless, his efforts alone couldn’t withstand the IT&Es’ offense, causing Buraot to fall behind by a couple points.

The IT&Es enjoyed their two-point lead until the final quarter, where Peredo picked up speed with the help of Jomar Tumaquip and Joy Dayrit.

Following a powerful lay up from Sablan, Buraot’s Jery Hidalgo scored his first and last three-pointer of the game, bringing the team closer to their opponents.

The IT&Es stayed strong until the end, with Peredo blasting undefended two-pointers. He came second to Sablan with 28 points, while Sablan gathered 34 for Buraot. Assisting Peredo in the IT&Es’ central offense were Naraja and Ivan De Vero, who shot for a combined total of 38 points.
