With the post kick off session of the Rotary youth basketball league the Sonics defeated the Rollers B last Wednesday at the Gilbert C. Ada gymnasium, 60-45 in the Rotary youth basketball league.
From the beginning of the game team Sonics already started out strong and fierce igniting their winning momentum as team player Bryan Ajoste scored 6 points grabbing a shaky two point lead over the Rollers at the end of the first quarter, 10-8.
Damart Tergeyo and Rodney Sacramento each collared 4 points to catch up to the Sonics. But the Rollers had a tough time defeating the Sonics while Leo Galarse scored 6 points and teammate Tristan Ecalnea chipped in his 5 pence to strengthen the shaky two point lead to a sturdy 8 point gap between the two teams by half time, 28-20.
Upon entering the second half of the game, the Sonics did not let up towards the Rollers and instead kept the upper hand of the bout throughout the night.
Team player Tristan Ecalnea broke through the Rollers’ defense to fend off 6 points speedily for the Sonics. Team player Melvin Cadiang jumps into the band wagon and steadily helps Ajoste by contributing 4 points to the team to widen the gap once again to by 10 steady points by the time the siren sealed the third quarter shut, 42-32.
Both teams anticipated the fourth quarter along with the crowd. It was history for the Rollers with only David Diaz breaching through the Sonics’ defense in the last ten minutes of the game.
Diaz was able to successfully bag 6 points with teammate Rodney Sacramento bagging a downtown shot; afterwards it was complete silence from the Rollers.
Adrian Palacios and teammate J.P Villanueva decided to break the awkward silence for the Sonics by bagging another 6 points a piece with less than three minutes left in the game.
Coach Omar Ajoste advised his team players to take it easy in the last seconds of the game with the Sonics bagging a fierce win against the Rollers, 60-45.
