CUC acting Executive Director Utu Abe Malae said their employees will perform their assigned tasks regularly every working day.
“We are not required to cut employee hours because the source of CUC funding is not from the central government treasury,” he added.
He said it will cost CUC more in overtime and penalties if it will not meet the deadlines imposed by the federal stipulated orders.
“We also have to open up our revenue collection function five days a week,” he added.
He said if CUC closes its revenue collection office on Fridays it “would be like shooting ourselves in the foot.”
Malae said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fines imposed on CUC are already in the millions of dollars.
He said they are continually locating and repairing leaks; eliminating theft of power and water; and recruiting more skilled employees to get the work done properly.
“If a local company can do a particular kind of work for us more efficiently and effectively, then we will outsource it,” he added.
