With the fastest time of 46 minutes and 10 seconds, Sublemente finished first in the men’s division of the mountain bike category, while Van Dam dominated the women’s division with a clean one hour mark. Following Sublemente in his division were second place winner Arnel Cruz and third place winner Russ Quinn. Kimiko Hasegawa trailed Van Dam’s record in the women’s division by three minutes and 45 seconds, while Kanae Quinn came third at 1:05:16.
Both Kieran and Melanie Daly proved to be the fastest in the road course, with the former reaching the finish line at 50:59. Melanie, who was the only female competitor in the road bike race, immediately earned her spot in first place with 1:29:05. Lewie Tenorio came next to Daly with 51:46 and Joe Ngiraibuuch came third with a time of 52:32.
While Carey declared all the children in the kids’ duathlon winners, she also recognized young athletes Logan Mister, Cole Chambers, and Alexander Bateman for competing in the longer courses. A total of 42 adults and 12 kids participated in all courses.
“I am so happy so many people came – it really made me more motivated for training and to do races,” said Carey.
Proceeds of the race will help her for the 2010 Xterra Championships in Maui, Hawaii, set for October 24.
“Thank you for everybody, thank you for my sponsors Pacific Islands Club, Salomon, Gold’s Gym, Big Dipper, Brabu, IT&E, and Marianas Visitors Authority,” noted Carey, who was helped by her husband, Kevin Carey, and Mamiko Oshima-Berger in the event.
Carey participated in the Maui Xterra Championships last year, winning 18th place in the pro category of the women’s division.
