WSR student leaders conduct canned food drive

The council officers and their advisers packed the donated goods into 60 packages, each containing eight to nine assorted items.

The week-long food drive collected boxes of cereals and oatmeal, Spam lite, tuna, sardines, milk and fruit juices, canned vegetables and soup, brown rice, macaroni, and other food items, Alcantara said.

Rebecca J. Flores, WSR counselor, said the Student Council’s annual community service project is now in its sixth year. It allows the students to share their blessings with the less fortunate members of the community and learn the values of generosity, thankfulness, empathy and caring, she said.

The canned food drive started on Nov. 10 when the council leaders sent out letters to their fellow students to encourage them to make donations.

“It was a successful campaign that would have not been possible without the help of the students and their families,” Alcantara said.
