32 people get free diabetes check up

Consultation is still available today.

“We are very glad to have seen people who are interested to learn about diabetes,” Ayres said. “The turnout was nice and satisfactory.”

Although some scheduled patients of the day did not show up, Ayres said their slots were filled by walk-in patients.

Ayres said they are expecting more patients to come today.

During the medical check-up,  the blood pressure, blood sugar and weight of the patients were examined.

“They also learn about their basic metabolic rate and they were given seminars on how to examine their feet,” Ayres said.

They learned how to properly cut their nails, how to care for calluses and how to do the sensitivity test.

Ayres is reminding those diagnosed with diabetes to make sure their footwear size is accurate.

Patients also received a lecture from a dietician and received foot and diabetic kits.

A patient who declined to be identified said he learned a lot from the dietician who advised him how to choose healthier food items.

“I am considered obese,” he said. “I am glad to know what food I should not eat so I can lose weight and maintain my blood sugar level,” he said.
