Saipan sluggers are KQOD champions

between first and second bases to foil Team Pohnpei’s attempt to take a debut win in 2009 Budweiser King & Queen of the Diamond Softball Tournament’s ultimate championship at the Capital Hill Ball Field last Saturday.

Base hits rained the field in what appeared to be a déjà vu of the opening games.

Team Guam defeated Team Palau in the opening game last Friday and they had a second encounter that still ended in favor of the Guamanians.

Then came the retribution game between Team Saipan and Team Pohnpei.

Except for Patrickson Anson’s automatic-out home run, Team Palau and Team Saipal gave each other hitless first innings.

With one out in the second inning, Patterson Anson and Uber Souwelian both hit a single, and Strik Anson knocked-in 2 RBI single to the right field.

John David retires Didi Tudela in the bottom of the third. But with two outs, Beverly Ngirmekur connected a run-scoring single.

Ngirmekur, Siliil and Efraim bamboozled Team Pohnpei with double plays in the top of fourth and fifth innings allowing only two base hits.

Shiro singled Hayes to tie the game before Dikito duplicated it and drove Omar to score the winning run.

Team Guam won the third place against Team Palau, 9-8.

Victor Villagomez scored the winning run when Team Palaus’ short stopper Tats Joshua Court had throwing error on Kevin Isezaki.
