All qualify for 9-game roll-off in King of the Lanes

The final tournaments will be held on Jan. 10 to 17 at the Capital Bowling Center.

In previous years when the number of players in the King of the Lanes usually reached 36, men who ranked 13th to 36th played in three-game roll-off.

The top 12 qualifiers would join the bowlers who are ranked 1st to 12th for the 9-game roll-off.

To qualify for the annual roll off or finals, a male SBA member must bowl in at least five roll-offs within the months of January to December 2009.

A bowler must meet the required number of participation irrespective of his bowlers ranking system (BRS) points.

Because only 27 male bowlers qualified for the year-end tournament, all the men this year automatically qualify for the nine- game roll-off.

Entry fee for the 9-game final roll-off will be $50.00.

There is also a change in determining the players for the step-ladder finals. After the roll-offs, only the top three bowlers will qualify for the step-ladder finals.

In previous years, the top six bowlers advanced to the finals with No. 6 playing No. 3 and No. 4 playing No.5.  Then in the semi-finals, the first winner will bowl against the No. 1 and the winner of the second game will bowl against No.2 for the finals.

In the Queen of the Lanes, the ladies will bowl an eight-game final roll-off to determine the top three bowlers for the step ladder finals.

The entry fee for the 8-game final roll-off will be $40.00.

These changes, according to SBA’s Ross Zapanta were made due to the smaller number of bowlers who made it in the year-ender.

This, he added is also to shorten the length of the tournament.
